Creation of these ultra-realistic EIR surfaces requires state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, including advanced digital scanning and printing techniques, specialized press plates and a sophisticated camera system to perfectly align the woodgrain’s pattern and texture.
The first step, however, is to locate a wood sample with the visual appeal and woodgrain suitable for reproduction. Decor management experts search timber yards, carpentry shops, sawmills, interior design firms and elsewhere for the perfect sample.
Once the sample is located, high resolution scans capture both the appearance and three-dimensional texture. The image is printed on high-quality decorative papers, while the woodgrain texture is imprinted onto specialized press plates.
Automated systems position the resin-soaked decorative paper onto both sides of sustainable particleboard, which is also made locally. A camera system uses synchronized pore technology to flawlessly align the press plate texture to the woodgrain pattern.
The lamination press applies high heat and extreme pressure to fuse the resin-soaked, printed decorative papers onto both sides of the particleboard. The perfectly matched texture is imprinted by the press plate. The resulting EIR wood reproductions are strikingly authentic, delivering expressive, deeply textured woodgrain designs that can be seen and felt.
EGGER’s Matching end grain edge banding completes the look of solid wood. End grain edge banding delivers the appearance of cross-cut annular tree rings, reproducing the look of sawn timber.
